From Point A to Point B: Discovering Me

By now, whether you’ve managed to read one of our posts, or all of them, you’d be able to tell that traveling is not only close to our hearts but it has become a necessary part of our lives. It’s not just a way of getting to know the world, but it opens us up to the opportunity of getting to know ourselves.

With every new city, and every new country, we are forced to come to terms with new realities. We don’t always need to travel far either to experience these revelations. I discovered a place of peace on Manitoulin Island. I discovered my independence in Ottawa. I discovered possibility in Montreal. I discovered hope in New Foundland. I discovered acceptance in Saskatchewan. But not all discoveries were made on my home turf. My initial sense of wonder was discovered in England. My faith was discovered in Italy. My perseverance was discovered in Iceland. My resolve was discovered in Ireland. My courage was discovered in France. My history was discovered in the Netherlands.

And so with every new place comes a new piece to the puzzle that is me. I learn, and grow, and go once more to learn, and grow again. There is so much knowledge waiting out there and we have a lifetime to learn it. From people to places, to music and art, and culture, and climate, it’s inevitable to experience new discoveries. So I challenge you all to try to learn something new about yourself on every new trip. Whether it’s international adventure or a weekend getaway, open yourself to the possibility of learning something new about you. May your list of locations be as long as your list of learned lessons.
